Meet The American Dream, the world’s longest car that has 26 wheels and can accomodate up to 75 passengers!

3 min read

Built from six 1976 Cadillac El Dorado limousines, the so-called American Dream is over 30 meters long and has enough interior space to accomodate up to 75 people.
However, for obvious reasons, It’s not the easiest vehicle to maneuver!

Originally built in 1986 by renowned car collector and customizer Jay Ohrbeg, The American Dream measured “only” 18.28 meters or, if you prefer, 60 feet, and was powered by a pair of V8 engines, one at the front and another at the rear.
He later extended his peculiar vehicle to an amazing 30.5 meters (or 100 feet) long and, in 1986, Guinness acknowledged it as the world’s longest car!
The giant limousine was even featured on the cover of several magazines, on television shows and movies.
However, its meteoric rise to fame was followed by an abrupt drop in popularity, ending up abandoned at the back of a New Jersey warehouse for decades until a pair of automotive enthusiasts bought it and restored it to its former glory.

And today The American Dream is back to its glamorous self, with 26 brand-new wheels, a fresh coat of elegant white paint, and a few extra inches added to its already impressive length, mostly thanks to the efforts of Michael Dezer and Michael Manning, who found it listed online and decided to buy and restore it, investing several years and quite a chunk of change.
But the result is nothing short of impressive!

I first found the car at an autobody show in New Jersey and it was garbage. It was covered in graffiti, the windows were broken, the tires were flat, but I fell in love with it anyway. I said, ‘I’m going to get this car and I’m going to bring it back and restore it,’” Michael Manning told Guinness Records.

Although this ultra-long limousine is the world’s longest car by quite a margin, its incredible length is just one of the many things that make it special, as it features a large waterbed, a swimming pool complete with a diving board, jacuzzi and bathtub, a mini-golf course, and even a functional helipad for a small helicopter.
All perfect but, even if The American Dream is technically functional, you can only drive it on straight roads.
In fact, turning a 30-meter-long car safely is impossible on most roads, so it doesn’t get driven too much.
Basically It’s a display car, and you can admire it up close at Dezerland Park Orlando’s Auto Museum in Orlando, Florida.
