Gushi Cliff Coffee, a café in southeastern China’s Fujian Province, that allows customers to enjoy a regular cup of coffee…on a 70-meter-high cliff edge overlooking the Taiwan Strait.
Sipping a cup of coffee while taking in a breathtaking view should be a relaxing experience, but at Cliff Coffee is actually something different, as It proudly bills itself as “the world’s most extreme café”!
Gushi Cliff Coffee basically consists of rectangular platforms bolted to the cliff, which act as seating for patrons and, to reach the site, customers must first traverse a ‘via ferata’ trail for about 30 minutes before being rappelled down to the platforms under the supervision of an instructor.
The project was created by professional climber Xue Ke to combine adrenaline-pumping activity with scenery, opening on October 1, 2024, during the Golden Week holiday.
The initiative is part of a government-backed “rural revitalization” plan to boost local tourism, with 1.5 million yuan in funding to encourage visitors to the previously quiet area.
Facing with massive interest from tourists, its founder emphasized that advance reservations are required, and that people can’t simply rappel to the platforms without staff supervision.
Interestigly, a coffee at Gushi Cliff Coffee costs 398 yuan, orcabout $58, which sounds a little bit expensive, but the owner of the unique location explained that the price includes the mandatory insurance, professional equipment rental, and the rappelling instructors.
Moreover, there is no time limit for your stay.
Once you get to the platforms, you can stay for as long as you want.
Either way, literally described as a nightmare for coffee lovers with a fear of heights, Gushi Cliff Coffee has been attracting adrenaline addicts from all over China!
