Andries had become involved in an argument with a man who had accidentally bumped into his girlfriend inside a bar and took offence at what the young footballer intended as a light-hearted remark. The confrontation appeared to end there, but the man later returned armed with a knife and stabbed Andries in the head and back. Despite the severity of the attack, he was discharged from hospital soon afterwards and even resumed training. Still suffering pain from his wounds, he collapsed five days after the stabbing while his mother was driving him back to hospital, dying before he could receive further treatment.

As investigators continue their work, the circumstances surrounding Jayden Adams’ death remain unresolved.
